Bluetooth meets NetStumbler as Network Chemistry released BlueScanner, a free Windows utilities that scans for Bluetooth devices. We talked to Andrew Lockhart, author of BlueScanner, to find out how he developed the program and what the program is good for.
Lockhart tested the program in offices, airports and even the Defcon computer security convention in Las Vegas. He easily found hundreds of devices that were potentially vulnerable to attack and tracking. Lockhart has also been playing around with a Bluetooth sniffer that can rip raw traffic from the air. He found out that a major PDA/phone model hotsyncs over Bluetooth in plain text.
