HP, IBM launch dual-core wares.

As previously expected, HP and IBM launched new servers to accompany the launch of Intel"s Xeon DP dual-core chips, code-named Paxville. The chip has two processing engines, or cores, to pack more power onto a single wafer without boosting power consumption. AMD advances launch date for dual core Opteron.

AMD will announce at an event on April 21 in New York that the first dual-core Opteron processors are available, months ahead of schedule, sources familiar with the situation said. The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based chipmaker also is expected to announce its dual-core chips for personal computers will go on sale in June.

Organic Molecules Found On Far-away Planet.

Pasadena (CA) - Astronomers believe methane could be on a far-away planet in the Vulpecula constellation. The organic molecule showed up after scientists aimed the Hubble Space Telescope at planet HD189733b after it had passed in front of a star. Methane can combine with water to form amino acids, the basic building blocks of life.

AMD CEO: Consumer CPU capacity could be traded to fuel commercial growth.
