IBM to power China.

IBM this week pitched its Power processor family as a de facto standard for consumer electronics, cars, communications kit and computers by launching a consortium to promote the platform to Far Eastern manufacturers. Dubbed Power.org, the group comprises 15 firms, including Sony, Chartered Semiconductor, Red Hat, Novell, Bull, Cadence and a number of local Chinese chip makers, including Shanghai Belling and Synopsys.

Falling Global Demand For CD-R Discs Lessens Willingness To Renew Licensing Among Taiwan OEM Makers.
While Royal Philips Electronics is still negotiating renewals of its Veeza patent licensing with leading Taiwan-based makers of blank CD-R discs, the makers have become more reluctant to accept the licensing terms due to decreasing global demand for CD-R discs, according to industry sources in Taiwan. Leading makers include CMC Magnetics, Ritek and Prodisc Technology, the sources noted.

Sanyo Epson Imaging Devices today announced the development of a 7.1" direct-view full high-definition (HD) low-temperature poly-silicon (LTPS) LCD panel. Sanyo Epson intends to commercialize the LCD globally for use in such devices as professional video equipment, portable TVs for personal use and in-car systems with terrestrial digital TV (DTV) reception.
