Infineon launches 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit MCUs for automotive applications.

Today at the Embedded World 2006 exhibition in Nuremberg (February 14 -16), Infineon Technologies announced the availability of new microcontroller (MCU) products - 8-bit, 6-bit and 32-bit TriCore family of devices - for the automotive market. The Infineon MCUs, well suited for motor control systems, can reduce system-level costs by up to 40% compared to conventional solutions with external components including DSP, PWM ASIC, Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC), external oscillators, and others.

Car Racing Of The Future: FIA Tests Digital Flags.
Barcelona (Spain) -Flags, like the checkered finish flag, have always served a critical part in any form of car racing, but drivers can sometimes miss those wavy pieces of fabric driving at 200+ MPH. In a bid to change the status quo between judges, race organization and the drivers themselves, FIA as the world"s automotive governing body recently tested digital flags on the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona.

Herat (Afghanistan) - The United States Army is dazzling Afghani drivers with laser light in a bid to prevent accidents with its convoys. Convoy crews have been testing out the GLARE weapon-mounted laser by shinning the beams into the windshields of slow and dangerous cars. So far the makers of the laser system, B.E. Meyers and Company, say the tests are a resounding success.
