Lacie intros portable harddrive with encryption capability.

Lacie today announced a stylish, external harddrive that comes with a host of features to protect content stored on the device. The "SAFE Mobile Hard Drive" allows users to safeguard files through biometric access technology as well as DES- or Triple-DES-based hardware encryption with 56- or 128-bit keys. The USB 2.0 drives are currently available for pre-order with shipping scheduled to begin in December. The 5400 rpm 40 GByte and 80 GByte versions are priced at $220 and $270, the 4200 rpm 120 GByte drive rings up at $400.
