Leaked AMD '09 CPU & Chipset Roadmap.

Most of us are well aware of the 45nm processors that AMD is expected to roll out beginning this year. However, a lot of tech sites have been posting information that contradicts information found elsewhere. Thanks to a credible source we have some new information regarding upcoming product launches from AMD. A lot of speculation and rumors have been floating around the scene as to what is coming next. Now we have some confirmed information thanks to inside sources with one of AMD๒€™s close partners. Tom๒€™s Hardware was able to see documentation that spills the beans about everything that is in store for all of you over the next coming months. So let us break it down for you. Uses a 55nm process technology the same as RS780. RS880 will have enhanced 3D performance and capabilities and a lower TDP comparable to 780G. The current internal scheduling is that samples will be rolled out this coming November and production ramp up will commence in early March 2009. Now onto the AM3 platform definition. Socket AM3 is designed to exclude AM2 and AM2+ parts ๒€“ has DDR3-1333 memory support. Thermal monitoring is moving over entirely to Thermal Sense Interface (TSI) monitoring ๒€“ no more Diode based monitoring. Phasing out of Diode based monitoring has already begun with current products being pressed and net yet shipped. PCI VR control is also scheduled to be phased out for all future AM3 processors. DVTs will be available in October. 125W AM3/DDR2 EVT samples are expected to be available in August and there will be no AM2+/DDR2 EVT samples available at all. The AM2+/DDR2 Deneb 45nm processors have been specified to support only dual-plane motherboards. These processors will exceed current specifications when paired with a single-plane board. AMD is also recommends that ODMs do NOT support these two AM2+/DDR2 Deneb parts on any single-plane boards. Subsequent Deneb 45nm AM3 based processors are not expected to carry these same limitations. AMDs current internal launch plan is stating that AM2+/DDR2 125W BXS is to launch January 8, 2009 @ CES ๒€“ AM3/DDR3 95W BXS to launch sometime in February 2009 ๒€“ AM3/DDR3 125W BXS to launch March 3, 2009 @ CeBIT. We last broke news about AMD๒€™s Phenom FX processor, which has an expected release date in early 2009. This will be the first time that AMD has used the FX moniker in quite some time. Enthusiasts are hoping for AMD to differentiate itself, but more than likely, the FX release will introduce slightly higher clock frequencies and larger caches.
