Legacy rolls out certified 4 GB FB-DIMMs.

San Clemente (CA) - Legacy Electronics is offering a 4 GB DDR2-667 fully buffered dual in-line memory module (FB-DIMM) with certification for Intel chipsets and Computer Memory Test Labs (CMTL) requirements. According to the manufacturer, the memory module has met compatibility, reliability and performance requirements on Intel"s S5000 PSL, PAL, XVN and VSA series motherboards. The devices are shipping now and are priced at $895 per unit when purchased in 100-unit quantities. The price is about in line with other currently offered 4 GB FB-DIMMs, which typically can be bought for as low as $815 and, depending on the manufacturer, extend to about $1000.

Cree shows off super-bright white LED.
US-based LED developer Cree said that it has developed a new white LED that puts out light at almost ten times the efficiency of your average incandescent light bulb. According to Cree, its white LED achieves a rating of 131 lumens per watt, while a 60 watt light bulb typically circles around 14 lumens per watt.

Intel plans to start offering an entry-level Core 2 Duo processor, the T5200, for OEM notebook makers in October, in order to compete with AMD"s entry-level Mobile Turion 64x2 CPUs, according to sources at Taiwan notebook makers.
