Mobile phone users may not need to squint at their mobile phone screens anymore. Samsung claims it has developed a new display chip that makes LCDs brighter in daylight. The chips can also lower the brightness when the screens are indoors, which can save battery life by up to 30%.
Samsung"s mobile display driver integrated chip changes the light output depending on the brightness of the ambient light. The light is detected by a photosensor which divides the light into 32 levels. An image enhancement algorithm then matches the outputted light to the ambient light.
The chip also adjusts color and saturation for each individual pixel. Samsung will mass produce the chips by the end of the year.
