Sanyo Epson unveils high-resolution cellphone display.

Sanyo Epson today said that it has developed a 2.2" cellphone display that is just 1.1 mm thick and can display QVGA (320 x 240 pixel) resolution. The new device is based on amorphous silicon (a-Si) technology and reaches a brightness of 350 candelas per square meter. The company confirmed that it will be mass-producing the display but declined to specify when the device will be available. Samsung also recently revealed higher-resolution mobile displays, including a 3" device that supports full VGA (640x480 pixel).

While the worldwide market for array processing equipment for TFT-LCDs grew 34 percent to reach $4.2 billion in 2004, a combination of several factors will drop the growth rate to only 3 percent in 2005, according to a recent report from The Information Network, a US-based market research company.
