What is behind the chipset shortage, and is Intel on the right track.

With rumors indicating that Intel has recently adjusted its capacity strategies by putting more effort on producing high-profit mobile chips and phasing out some lower-end desktop PC-use chipsets, Taiwan chipset makers including Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) have been pushing to ramp up their production to fill the gap in supply.

Intel to launch Presler on 27th - report.
As promised by Intel, Presler will be the very first 65 nm processor available, apparently launching on Dec. 27, according to a report at the Inquirer. Presler will be also the last core based on Intel"s Netburst architecture that was introduced more than five years ago with the Pentium 4 "Willamette" core.
