Nvidia announced that it is the first GPU company to ship WHQL (Windows Hardware Quality Labs) certified graphics drivers for Windows Vista. The version 96.85 Forceware drivers were released for download on 17 October from Nvidia"s website. However, security software developer CA says the war "is far from over." It can be won, we were told, but Internet users will have to learn websmarts and be cautious about a false sense of security that is created by antivirus software - and Windows Vista.
Spyware and keystroke loggers have often been thought of as a Windows only problem, but Nicholas Raba, CEO of SecureMac.com and co-author of Maximum Security says many Apple Macintosh users may have a false sense of security. SecureMac has released MacScan which detects and removes Macintosh spyware, remote administration utilities and keystroke loggers. In a telephone interview, Raba talked to us about current and future Macintosh spyware and virus threats.
Firefox users may be vulnerable to a denial of service attack after researchers looked into reports of a new vulnerability within Firefox 1.5.0.3. The flaw exists in how the browser handles image tags. The SANS Internet Storm Center first wrote off the problem, but continued research has shown that the flaw could be used maliciously.

NAND flash contract prices are no longer plummeting, it seems, with mainstream NAND, with the exception of 2 Gbit parts, now trending up, according to the latest update. DRAMeXchange sees this as a reflection of previous price rises by leading makers Samsung Electronics and Hynix Semiconductor.

In order to speed up adoption of quad-core CPUs, Intel is planning to offer its upcoming 3.2GHz Extreme series Bloomfield processor at $999 in thousand-unit tray quantities, US$500 cheaper compared to the current top-end Core 2 Extreme QX9770 which sells at $1499, according to sources at motherboard makers. Cupertino (CA) - In an exclusive interview this afternoon with TG Daily, Apple Computer"s senior director for desktops, Tom Boger, dispelled rumors that its new hardware partner, Intel, manufactured more components for the company than just the CPU and on-board chipset for his company"s new iMacs and MacBook Pro models. Saying Apple is responsible for the architecture and assembly of the Macs" new hardware, as it has been for all prior models, Boger stated that the three factors that distinguish Apple"s new systems from Core Duo-based PCs designed to run Windows, are form factor, operating system, and applications.

A battle for the PCIe GPU channel market between ATI Technologies and Nvidia looms in the fourth quarter, despite an ATI claim that it has delivered over one million native PCIe GPUs to the market, according to sources at Taiwan graphics card makers.
